How do I get my auto glass replaced or repaired ?

Here's how it works. You let your installer know what insurance company you use and what your policy number is, and they contact them to arrange payment. You may have to get on the phone for a brief moment to confirm with your insurance company that you're using Super Auto Glass(this is something insurance companies often require). Then the auto glass replacement company takes care of everything—billing, paperwork, and the whole nine yards. You can even bill your credit card for the amount of your deductible. Please note that some insurance companies, require the customer to speak with the claims department directly, and then the insurance company will contact the glass shop.

Why should I replace my damaged windshield?

A vehicle's windshield helps the driver by allowing clear view of the road and the vehicular traffic around the driver. In California, the regulations regarding the road safety considers a vehicle with a damaged windshield as a hazard to public safety. The California Highway Patrol will issue a fix-it ticket for damaged windshield that is in need or replacement.

Your car has been built to provide a convenient transportation, but also to help protect you in the event of an accident. All repair work done to your car is regulated by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards to ensure that all parts and their installation meet the performance requirements that contribute to your safety.

Your windshield is secured to the body of your car by specially formulated glass adhesives that have been tested and approved to meet all applicable federal and state requirements.

Your windshield is classified as a "safety device" because it provides structural strength to your car body, helps keep passengers inside the car if an accident should occur, and supports the inflation and performance of passenger side airbags. As important as the quality of the windshield glass, the quality of the adhesive and proper installation is also very important.

Why should repair my damaged windshield?

It is a fact that auto windshields tend to crack or break and then need replacement and repair. This can happens for various reasons. For instance, a chip of gravel can hit the windshield while the car is in motion. Accidents can obviously cause the windshield to shatter completely. Extreme cold weather conditions are also often the culprit. Many times, car windshields become the victims of vandalism or others’ careless driving. The point is that auto windshields are made of toughened glass, but this glass is still susceptible to damage.

The problem is that car windshield replacement is a costly affair. A viable alternative is windshield repair, which most insurance companies now accept in place of replacement. In fact, they even waive the client’s deductible should he or she choose to repair instead of replace the car windshield. This makes financial sense to insurance companies too, because they save millions each year this way. By repairing instead of replacing an auto windshield, the original windshield retains the integrity of its factory seal. In short, everyone wins. Windshield repair is a high margin specialty service, making it a major industry.

What are some specific features of auto glass parts?

Not all of the auto glass around your car is made of the same material or the same kind of glass. The windshields, in particular, are made from a different material or construct compared to the other glasses around your car, such as the back glass and the door glasses. The use of different materials for the auto glasses were made to ensure that each of the glasses would function just as they are expected.

Unlike the windshields that are made of two float glasses with a plastic laminate sandwiched between them, door glasses or windows are made of a single piece of glass. The glass used is a temperate plate and is basically similar to the glass used on the back or rear window of the car. The windshields proved tougher than the door glasses as the windshields are designed not to break easily when hit by debris, especially while driving. The temperate glass used on the windows, on the other hand, is designed to break easily when pounded. This is purposely made so that it would break easily in cases of vehicle rollover where the passengers are trapped inside the vehicle. While they would break easily, the door glasses would break into fine pieces, compared to the jagged formation of broken windshields, so that it would not cause much danger.
